Handmade Pool Cues – Thailand

Mostly, we have our handmade pool cues custom made by two cue makers in Thailand. Why Thailand? Superb build, unrivalled wood stocks and fantastic value for money.

Occasionally we stock other cue brands to fulfil customer requests who are stuck with one brand in mind but the majority of our sales are hand made pool cues from Thailand.

Handmade Pool Cues – How does it work?

We carry a large range of handmade pool cues in stock to try and meet our customer demands and in the majority of cases this is enough. For customers requiring a custom fit we agree the specifications and then agree the build with out guys in Thailand. Surprisingly, most sales are from stock with Black Foxwood Pool Cues being our biggest seller.

How are the Handmade Pool Cues made?

One of the main reasons of getting the cues custom made for our range in Thailand is their vast quantity of various hard woods in stock. They really do have an incredible choice of exotic butt woods and stiff Canadian Ash so you know the cue is going to not only look great but also have a nice solid strike. The ash shafts are carefully selected for strength and straightness before any exotic woods are chosen to decorate the cue to the customers requirements. As I said earlier, ash shafts are nice and stiff and because of the vast quantities purchased, they all have the correct drying times applied; no need to rush a cue through here!

Once dried, a tapering process is completed and the cue shaft goes through a sanding process ready for the splicing of butt wood.

The choice of available exotic hardwoods is incredible. Although some are now restricted, there are so many to choose from to provide that striking design that we are all searching for. Once chosen, the exotic wood is spliced to the shaft with amazing accuracy for the top of the fingers and also the bottom which shows the quality of each cue maker.

Once the final tapering of the butt woods to the shaft has been achieved, numerous sanding processes are undertaken to achieve that great ‘silky smooth’ finish we all strive for.

Now there are many types of finish that can be utilised to finish a cue and in the UK we love our oils and waxes. So, once the initial cue build is completed in Thailand, a single coat of oil is applied and the cue is then shipped to our workshop in the UK. Here, we have a number of different finished we like to apply to meet the various customer requirements we find with Pool players. Some like a really smooth matt effect, some like a glossy butt, some like oil, some like wax and some like a mixture of both so we generally mix and apply them here in our workshop and then give the cue the required amount of time to dry!

Generally fit a Grand Soft, Elkmaster or Blue Diamond to the handmade pool cue so the cue has a tip on it ready for purchase. If our customer has a specific request for a tip we will of course fit and shape one of these prior to delivery. 

Understanding the various requirements nowadays for cue extensions, we have ensured that a Spiroloc (small) joint has been fitted to all our range in case a mini butt or telescopic extensions is required now or into the future. Our Spiroloc extensions are a high quality product and can be purchased separately on our website if required.
